Neighbor Uses Video to Help Capture Thief

Within the last month a man broke into a house in the 2400 block of Lillie.  The resident was not home when the intruder entered through a window and took valuables.  The home owners did have a digital security camera that captured the intruders likeness and he was eventually taken into custody.  The burglar was charged with violation of probation among other charges.  He will be spending years in prison as a result of his crimes.  It turns out the man had been casing the house and tried to enter the house through the front door a week earlier, when the homeowner was there.  She scared the thief off with her yelling and screaming.

The story shows that you can be home and still be a victim.  Police might ask for a description, which you might be able to provide, if you are not too shaken, or you can use a system that records images from security cameras around your property.  There are laws and guidelines about the use of security cameras, so contact Davenport PD for information about using cameras if you do it yourself.  Reputable security companies will follow local laws when setting up security systems.
